Elon Musk has questioned one of society’s most respected educational paths.

The debate over the future of healthcare is intensifying as new technology continues to advance, according to NDTV.

Artificial intelligence is already being used to analyze scans, support doctors in diagnosis, and assist in surgical procedures.

However, medical education remains the foundation of healthcare systems around the world.

Comments that sparked attention

The debate gained momentum following a podcast featuring Elon Musk cited by NDTV. In it, he described studying medicine as pointless.

He argued that within a few years, artificial intelligence will be able to deliver better treatment than human doctors.

“Everyone will have access to medical care that is better than what the president receives right now”, Musk said in the podcast.

Among other examples, he pointed to Tesla’s humanoid robot Optimus and predicted that AI-based robots will be able to perform surgery better than humans.

Elon Musk also emphasized that medical education takes many years, while medical knowledge is constantly evolving.

A divided professional assessment

The core of Elon Musk’s argument is that technology, in his view, will make traditional medical education obsolete.

NDTV reports that several healthcare experts acknowledge AI’s great potential but remain skeptical about the short timeframe.

Clinicians and medical experts point out that responsibility, ethics, and the doctor–patient relationship still require human judgment, according to NDTV.

For medical students, the debate also raises concerns about future job prospects.
