Tofu is playing a larger role in modern dietary guidelines, but studies point to both benefits and limitations.

Tofu is made from soybeans and has been used in cooking for more than 2,000 years.

According to Parade, it is a plant-based food with a high content of protein and essential minerals.

At the same time, tofu contains relatively little saturated fat, making it an alternative to meat, particularly in plant-based diets.

Possible benefits

Research shows that soy may have a positive effect on the body.

A meta-analysis published in Nutrients indicates a lower risk of cardiovascular disease and type 2 diabetes with higher intake.

Tofu also contains fiber, which is important for digestion and gut bacteria.

In addition, it is a complete protein source containing all essential amino acids, which, according to Parade, makes it nutritionally valuable.

However, some people experience bloating or discomfort, which may be due to certain carbohydrates in soybeans.

Is tofu carcinogenic?

There has long been debate about soy and the risk of cancer, particularly breast cancer.

According to research from PLOS One and another study published in Nutrients, there is no evidence of increased risk with moderate intake.

On the contrary, several analyses suggest a possible protective effect in certain cases.

A daily intake of tofu can be part of a healthy diet, but its effects depend on the quantity consumed and overall lifestyle.
