A small daily habit could be silently cancelling out the health benefits of your favorite beverage.

For many, coffee is a daily ritual. Whether it’s for the taste, the energy boost, or just habit, millions rely on a cup or two to start the day.

But now, researchers say there might be more at stake than just staying awake.

A study from Tufts University suggests your morning brew could influence how long you live. The potential health benefits of coffee aren't guaranteed for everyone.

They found that drinking coffee is linked to a lower risk of death from any cause, especially from heart disease. But that effect wasn’t seen across the board.

In fact, the benefits were strongest only among people who drank their coffee a certain way.

Those who added generous amounts of sugar or cream didn’t see the same results.

In contrast, those who kept it simple — drinking it plain or with very little added — experienced a noticeable health advantage.

The study showed up to a 14 % lower risk of death among moderate coffee drinkers who avoided heavy additives.

So what’s the best approach? The study points to black coffee or coffee with minimal sugar and saturated fat.

Two to three cups per day seemed to offer the most benefit.

Drinking more didn’t improve outcomes — and loading it up with cream or sweeteners could actually wipe out the effect.

While coffee is packed with bioactive compounds that may promote health, the study suggests these benefits are weakened or lost entirely when unhealthy additives are involved.

In other words, it’s not just about drinking coffee. It’s about how you drink it. That small choice could make a big difference over time.
