Coffee is a staple in many people’s morning routines, but a new twist is gaining attention from health experts.

According to Kuchnia, cocoa has long been studied for its potential health effects.

Several studies suggest that the polyphenols in cocoa may support blood circulation and brain function, and a possible impact on blood sugar levels is also noted.

However, Kuchnia points out that results can vary, and heating cocoa reduces some of the compounds typically highlighted for their benefits.

Raw cocoa is particularly rich in antioxidants. Their review also associates the product with lower blood pressure and changes in cholesterol levels.

Kuchnia explains that the difference between raw cocoa and regular cocoa powder mainly comes down to processing.

Raw cocoa is typically sold in health food stores and retains more natural compounds, while the cocoa powder found in supermarkets is often more processed and may contain added ingredients.

Even so, Kuchnia emphasizes that both types can be part of a normal diet, depending on what consumers prioritize.

Kuchnia highlights a TikTok post in which health expert Dr. Karan Rajan and dietitian Corey Rodriguez discuss food synergy.

Corey Rodriguez explains that when you add cocoa to your coffee, the caffeine in the coffee and the theobromine in the cocoa work together to enhance mood, focus, and mental clarity.
