Doctor shares advice against hangovers – and it involves cheese

Many people are looking for simple tips that can make a night of drinking easier the next day. A doctor suggests a specific food choice.

Alcohol is a regular feature of Christmas lunches, dinners and social gatherings. At the same time, hangovers are something most people would prefer to avoid.

As a result, health advice, especially when shared on social media, receives a great deal of attention during this period.

According to LADbible, a recent piece of advice is based on a TikTok video made by an American doctor specializing in pulmonary and intensive care medicine and shared by the user @neenziiemd.

The doctor points out that what you eat before consuming alcohol can make a difference.

In the video, she says that eating cheese before drinking alcohol may help reduce hangovers.

Why does it help?

According to the doctor, the effect is due to the fact that cheese contains protein, fat and complex carbohydrates.

She explains that these nutrients can form a layer in the stomach, thereby reducing how quickly alcohol is absorbed into the body.

She also notes that cheese contains vitamin B and calcium, which the body loses during alcohol consumption.

These nutrients play a role, among other things, in energy levels and nerve function.

However, there is no documentation showing that cheese alone can prevent hangovers, and the effect may vary.

The most important advice

The doctor herself emphasizes that the best way to avoid hangovers is not to drink alcohol at all.

The advice about cheese is therefore not a guarantee, but a possible measure if one chooses to drink.

NHS continues to recommend not regularly drinking more than 3 units on the same day and a maximum of 14 units per week.
