Cigarettes, e-cigarettes and cannabis affect the body in different ways.

Doctors Peter Attia and Andrew Huberman compared the potential health risks on the Huberman Lab podcast.

According to LADbible's coverage of the conversation, Peter Attia believes that the smoke from one joint may be roughly as harmful as the smoke from one cigarette.

However, this does not mean that someone who smokes cannabis occasionally is necessarily exposed to the same overall amount of smoke as a regular cigarette smoker.

A cigarette smoker may, for example, smoke 20 or more cigarettes a day. Cannabis is often smoked less frequently. As a result, the overall exposure may be lower.

Andrew Huberman also points out that cannabis with a high THC content has been linked to an increased risk of psychosis, particularly among young men.

Nicotine without smoke

When it comes to nicotine, the doctors believe it is better to avoid products that are inhaled into the lungs.

According to Attia, nicotine gum and lozenges are less harmful than e-cigarettes and conventional cigarettes.

Huberman is also concerned about the chemicals that may be inhaled when using e-cigarettes.

For cannabis, edible products may, according to the conversation, eliminate some of the risks that come directly from smoke.

The biggest risk

The doctors' overall assessment ultimately points to a clear difference.

Among the nicotine products mentioned, Attia considers gum and lozenges to be the least harmful. E-cigarettes come next.

Conventional cigarettes are ranked as the most harmful way to consume nicotine.

E-cigarettes are therefore considered less harmful than cigarettes, but the doctors also stress that this does not make them harmless.

Nicotine is highly addictive, and health experts advise against both smoking and other forms of consuming these substances.
