You Won’t Believe How Fast the Weight Comes Back After Stopping Wegovy

Thousands celebrate the rapid results of weight loss injections. But a new analysis reveals a harsh truth few are prepared for when the treatment ends.

For many, weight loss injections like Wegovy and Mounjaro have felt like a breakthrough.

These medications suppress hunger, making it significantly easier to lose weight. On average, users dropped around 16 kilos while on the newer drugs.

It seemed almost too good to be true. And as it turns out, for many — it was.

What happens when the injections stop?

A major new analysis from the University of Oxford presented at the European Congress on Obesity examined data from over 6,000 adults across 11 studies.

Within just 10 months of stopping the medication, patients had regained nearly all of the weight they had lost.

Even those who had used the most effective and high-dose injections saw their progress unravel fast.

The weight came back almost twice as quickly as it does after stopping a regular diet.

This rapid regain raises serious concerns about the long-term effectiveness of these drugs.

A lifetime commitment or a temporary fix?

The results paint a stark picture: weight loss drugs are effective — but only while you’re taking them.

Once stopped, users are often left without the behavioural tools to maintain the loss.

Experts now warn that without psychological support, nutrition counseling, and long-term behavioural strategies, many will return to old habits and old weights.

Some are even questioning whether weight loss medication needs to be considered a lifelong therapy — a decision that comes with serious implications for public healthcare systems and private users alike.

The question now isn’t just how to lose weight — but how to keep it off when the medicine runs out.
