You don't need to spend hours at the gym to improve your blood pressure. Research shows that one particular type of exercise can make a significant difference in just a short amount of time.

Many people are not even aware that their blood pressure is too high.

High blood pressure increases the risk of cardiovascular disease, but exercise can help lower it.

And that doesn't necessarily mean going for long runs or doing intense workouts every day, according to Dagens.dk and B.T..

Researchers have examined the effects

A large analysis published in the British Journal of Sports Medicine examined 270 studies involving more than 15,000 participants to determine which types of exercise are most effective at lowering high blood pressure.

The findings suggest that one particular form of exercise is especially effective.

According to B.T., physician and professor Bente Klarlund Pedersen explains the findings.

She also points out that cycling, running and conventional strength training can help lower blood pressure.

Just eight minutes of exercise

The type of exercise that produced the best results is known as isometric exercise.

This involves contracting your muscles without moving your body.

Examples include holding a plank or performing a wall sit, where you lean against a wall with your knees bent.

According to the research, four two-minute sets, with breaks in between, are enough to produce a positive effect when performed three times a week.

When muscles contract and then relax, blood flow increases. Over time, this can help lower blood pressure.
