Dreyer's Grand Ice Cream voluntarily recalled select Outshine Fruit Bars after consumers reported finding glass in the frozen treats. The company issued its initial notice on August 16, 2026, and expanded it on August 18 to add the 24-count Variety Pack. The affected lots were shipped to retailers across the United States, meaning the product could be sitting in freezers anywhere in the country.

The recall covers Strawberry, Watermelon, Grape, Tangerine and Black Cherry 6-count 2.5-ounce Fruit Bars, plus the 24-count 2.5-ounce Variety Pack. No injuries or illnesses linked to the bars have been reported, according to Dreyer's.

Consumers can check the batch code and best-before date printed on the bottom of the package. Affected products carry best-before dates that fall between May 31, 2027 and November 30, 2027, with the exact date depending on flavor.

What to do if you have them

The company's guidance is straightforward. Anyone who bought the affected bars should throw them out or take them back to the store where they were purchased for a full refund. Only the listed 6-count paddle bars and the 24-count variety pack are covered by the action, so other Outshine products in your freezer are not part of the recall.

Dreyer's set up a customer service line for questions at 800-392-4885, open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. EST, and an email address at [email protected]. The company said it acted "out of an abundance of caution" after the consumer reports.

Why glass in food is treated so seriously

Foreign material recalls involving hard, sharp fragments like glass or metal are among the categories the U.S. Food and Drug Administration flags for their potential to cause laceration or choking injuries if swallowed. That is why a recall can move forward even before anyone is hurt, as is the case here.

Dreyer's said in a statement that the safety, quality and integrity of its products remain its highest priority, and that additional controls have been put in place while the company works with the FDA to strengthen food safety practices. The August 18 update added the Variety Pack to the earlier notice.

The quick checklist for your freezer

Pull the box out and turn it over. If it is one of the six listed products (Strawberry, Watermelon, Grape, Tangerine, Black Cherry, or the 24-count Variety Pack) and the best-before date falls anywhere from May 31, 2027 through November 30, 2027, do not eat the bars. Discard them, or bring the package back for a refund.
