A cheap supermarket drink could potentially have an impact on both blood pressure and cholesterol levels.

High blood pressure and elevated cholesterol are widespread health problems around the world. Both conditions increase the risk of blood clots and strokes, according to the Daily Record.

Health authorities therefore recommend measures such as a healthy diet, regular exercise, and reducing salt and fat intake in everyday life.

Several studies suggest that one common drink may also play a role.

Studies show positive effects

A study published in the European Journal of Nutrition in 2021 found that participants experienced lower blood pressure after 12 weeks of regular consumption.

Another study published in Arya Atherosclerosis reported similar results after 60 days.

Researchers believe that certain compounds in the drink may help positively influence blood pressure.

At the same time, an analysis published in Lipids in Health and Disease showed that people who drank around 480 milliliters daily had lower cholesterol levels than other participants.

Not without concerns

Researchers stress, however, that the drink cannot replace a healthy lifestyle. The NHS still recommends exercise, reduced alcohol intake, and a healthier diet as the most important measures.

In addition, the drink contains a significant amount of sugar, which may be a concern for people with diabetes or weight-related issues.

The drink examined by researchers is orange juice.
