Under-eye bags can make you look tired and older than you are. While not dangerous, they can hurt your confidence and make your face appear dull and puffy.

Fortunately, there are several affordable and natural remedies you can try at home - no expensive creams or cosmetic treatments needed.

Use a cold eye mask

One of the simplest ways to reduce swelling is to apply a cold eye mask.

The cold temperature helps reduce blood flow in the area, easing inflammation.

Keep the mask in the freezer so it’s always ready, especially in the morning or after a long day.

Cold compress with cloth or cucumber

A cold compress is a classic remedy. Soak a clean washcloth in cold water, wring it out, and gently press it on your closed eyes for a few minutes.

Alternatively, use chilled cucumber slices or a cold spoon from the fridge. Just remember to avoid applying ice directly on the skin - wrap it in a thin cloth first.

Get enough sleep

Lack of sleep is one of the most common causes of under-eye puffiness and dark circles.

Elevating your head slightly while sleeping helps prevent fluid from pooling under your eyes.

Use an extra pillow or raise the head of your bed to reduce puffiness in the morning.

Use coffee or tea bags

Caffeine is known for reducing puffiness and tightening the skin.

Place used tea bags (green or black tea) in the fridge until cold, then rest them on your closed eyes for a few minutes.

The caffeine and antioxidants help reduce inflammation and swelling.

Cut down on salt

Too much salt causes water retention, which leads to swelling - including under the eyes.

Reduce your intake of salty foods, especially at night, and avoid drinking too much water right before bed to prevent fluid buildup.

Quit smoking

Smoking breaks down collagen, the protein that keeps skin firm and youthful. This makes the skin under the eyes thinner and more prone to puffiness.

Quitting smoking will improve not only your appearance but your overall health as well.

Use sunscreen around the eyes

The skin around your eyes is very delicate and vulnerable to UV damage.

Always apply a gentle sunscreen to this area, and wear sunglasses and a wide-brimmed hat when outside to protect against further damage and prevent dark circles from worsening.

Don’t rub your eyes

Rubbing your eyes frequently can irritate and damage the delicate skin, leading to inflammation and puffiness.

Treat your under-eye area gently and avoid touching your eyes unless necessary.

Eat anti-inflammatory foods

While not directly mentioned in the source, ingredients like green tea, cucumber, and antioxidant-rich fruits naturally support skin health.

Including more anti-inflammatory foods in your diet can help reduce puffiness and improve your skin’s appearance from the inside out.
