Early findings offer new hope in fight against pancreatic cancer

A new research finding points to a potential new approach in the treatment of pancreatic cancer.

In December 2025, Spanish researchers published their results in the journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Science.

They tested a treatment in which three different therapies are combined instead of using just one.

In a trial involving mice, the researchers succeeded in eliminating tumors without serious side effects.

The scientists believe the combination works better because cancer cells often become resistant when only one type of medication is used.

However, NDTV reports that the treatment has not yet been tested on humans. The researchers still lack the funding required to begin clinical trials.

Difficult to detect

Pancreatic cancer is one of the most serious forms of cancer. It is often detected late because symptoms can be mild in the early stages.

By the time the disease is discovered, it has in many cases already spread. This makes treatment difficult.

Traditional treatments have had limited effect, partly because tumors can develop resistance to medication.

It is precisely this challenge that the new combination therapy aims to address.

The researcher behind the study

One of the leading figures behind the research is Mariano Barbacid.

According to Stop Cancer, he earned his PhD in Madrid in 1974 and has worked in cancer research for decades, including in the United States.

The treatment is still at the research stage. Only after it has been tested in humans can its potential impact on patients be assessed.
