Heart disease is one of the leading causes of death among women worldwide.
However, several of the most significant risk factors can develop without obvious symptoms, making regular health screenings after the age of 40 particularly important.
Several factors increase the risk
According to the Express, cardiologist Francesco Lo Monaco says that both lifestyle factors and a person's medical history can increase the risk of cardiovascular disease.
These include high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes, smoking, obesity, and physical inactivity.

Women who have experienced complications during pregnancy, early menopause, polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), or autoimmune diseases may also face an increased risk.
The doctor also stresses that chronic stress and poor sleep should be taken seriously.
Four health checks recommended
From the age of 40, Francesco Lo Monaco recommends that women without known risk factors undergo four routine health checks.
According to the Express, these include a blood pressure check, a cholesterol test, a blood glucose test, and an assessment of body mass index (BMI) together with a waist circumference measurement.

The aim is to identify hidden risk factors before they develop into serious disease.
The cardiologist believes that regular health screenings can make earlier intervention possible, thereby reducing the risk of conditions such as heart attack and stroke.
