X-Men actor reveals breast cancer diagnosis – here are the signs you should know

Breast cancer also affects men, although it is rare. A well-known actor has now shared his diagnosis.

Breast cancer is often associated with women, but the disease can also affect men, making it important to recognize the warning signs.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, cited by ABC News, about one in every 100 breast cancer diagnoses in the United States occurs in a man.

However, there are currently no general recommendations for breast cancer screening in men.

Signs of breast cancer

Symptoms may include a lump or swelling in the breast area.

Other signs can include redness, flaky or scaly skin, pain around the nipple, or discharge from the nipple.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, any changes in the breast area should be examined by a healthcare professional.

Who is at risk?

The risk may be higher for men over the age of 50.

It may also be increased by a family history of breast cancer, obesity, liver disease, previous hormone therapy, or prior radiation treatment.

Men who carry the BRCA1 or BRCA2 gene mutations may also have an elevated risk, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Raising awareness of breast cancer

Actor Tyler Mane has revealed on social media that he has breast cancer and has begun chemotherapy treatment.

Mane is best known for playing Sabretooth in X-Men and has also appeared in Deadpool & Wolverine.

According to ABC News, he shared his diagnosis in order to raise awareness of breast cancer in men.
